John 1 40-42
John 1 40-42
Good evening everyone watching by video this evening,,, it's time for our weekly devotion.
I'm praying that all of you are having a wonderful week so far.
As I've said the last several weeks,,, we need to continue to remember those that are dealing with this virus.
Those that are sick,,, since there are many others dealing with this sickness as it continues to grow and,,, those that have lost loved ones,,, we need to continue to remember them as well.
Remember the medical teams that are dealing with this and any others that must work and take a chance of contacting this virus.
Also,,, continue to remember those on our prayer list,,, and our country and it’s leaders.
---------------
Our devotion this evening comes from "David Jeremiah Morning and Evening Devotions".
Our scripture will be John 1:40-42 and I'll be reading from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
John 1:40–42 (HCSB) —
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed Him. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which means “Anointed One”), 42 and he brought Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, He said, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which means “Rock”).
God bless the reading and the hearing of your word this evening.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord,,, as we begin this evening,,, with all that are listening and watching by video,,, we ask that you open our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to receive the message that you have for us today,,, In Jesus' name I pray,,, Amen.
---------------
When we first accept Jesus as our Savior,,, we are always looking for ways to share what Jesus has done for us.
But after awhile,,, it slowly begins to fade,,, not all the way,,, but enough that we need to be reminded sometimes of the wonderful things that Christ has done for us,,, and the fact that we are commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Almost every time you read anything about Andrew in the Bible,,, he was bringing people to Jesus and we need to use his attitude as examples of the way that we need to function.
---------------
David Jeremiah titled this devotion,,, "OPERATION ANDREW".
He said that early in his ministry,,, Billy Graham wanted to mobilize local Christians to bring unsaved friends and relatives to his meetings.
To accomplish that,,, the Graham team devised “Operation Andrew,” a simple plan whereby church members listed unsaved friends,,, prayed for them,,, and invited them to hear the gospel.
Why the name?
Because every time we see Andrew in John’s Gospel,,, he’s bringing someone to Christ.
He began with his brother,,, Peter.
In John 6,,, he brought the boy that had the 5 loaves and 2 fish to Jesus; and in John 12,,, he led a group of Greeks to Christ.
We can do the same.
Years ago,,, a new Christian named Albert McMakin, age twenty-four,,, loaded his pickup truck with friends and took them each night to an evangelistic campaign in his city.
You may never have heard McMakin’s name; but you’ve heard the name of one of his passengers,,, a young man who was converted that week—Billy Graham.
Do you have room for someone in your “pickup”?
When you walk in the footsteps of the Savior,,, you’re walking the path of evangelism—and you never know whose life may be changed.
And like Andrew,,, we need to be prepared to do our part,,, every day!
